MEET Aprile

New Leadership Delivering Results for Our Community

Aprile Hearn has lived in District 5 all of her life and not just in the same area. Aprile has been blessed with the opportunity to live in the Shawnee, Chickasaw, Market and Portland areas.  Aprile now resides in the Shawnee neighborhood but has had the opportunity to learn the culture of each community and the uniqueness that each one brings to District 5.

Aprile has also had the pleasure of raising her three children in District 5, while they attended Maupin and Whitney Young Elementary and Shawnee High Schools located in District 5.  From 2013 to 2020 Aprile found joy  working for  JCPS public schools in District 5 at schools such as J.B. Atkinson and  Shawnee High School. One of the things Aprile loves most about District 5 was being able to practice her spiritual beliefs at The Greater Galilee Church were Aprile was an active member for over 20 years.

Aprile has been involved with community matters since 2013 when she began hosting empowerment workshops in the community partnering with organizations like City Life, a Christian based organization that believed in the mission of Aprile Hearn to create a space where community members could come together to heal and be empowered to elevate their lives. Other churches in the area also supported the ministry of Aprile Hearn by either attending her events or inviting her to come and speak over the years.

Aprile is published Author, Licensed Minister and Founder of Women Who Win which is a women's empowerment organization that has over 5,000 followers on all social media sites combined. Aprile has preached at several churches within District 5 and surrounding areas.

Aprile has also spent time working in the community professionally as a Youth Mentor, Domestic Violence Advocate and Activist. Aprile has used her voice to be a voice for the voiceless and has fought long and hard against gun violence, homelessness and has fought to create healthier, safer neighborhoods by eliminating food deserts and reducing the risk of harm.
